About Me

The Beginning of Nomad Life

Who am I and how did I start on this journey? Well, a short little tale about me and how I started the nomad life. I always lamented only having two or three weeks of vacation a year even though I just worked on a computer that could be anywhere. So on September 1st, 2022 I moved out of my house and began living out of a 2011 Airstream Flying Cloud 23FB, known as Silvie (aka Shiny Silver Sausage, aka SSS), towed by my 2002 Toyota Sequoia.

Since then, I’ve traveled around the United States and North America. I didn’t really keep track of my travels and I actively rejected trying to be an “influencer”. Nothing against them, but I wanted to travel for me and not attempting to work the algorithm for follows.

Social Media

Initially I would post the occasional update on my private Instagram or Facebook account. This was mostly just for close friends and family. It was pretty sporadic updates, honestly. I did find it pretty helpful when I’d go to some family function and the inevitable conversation of “So where have you been lately?”, “Where are you going next?”, “What was the most exciting thing / place / event happened since we saw you last?”, etc. occurred and to think back to the posts I’d made.

Realizing that while it was nice to live in the moment, it was also good to take the time and effort to reflect. To look back and remember what was done. To realize that part of enjoying traveling was not just the activity itself but also to reminisce and share experiences with others. Especially those I care about.

With this in mind I began to try and post more on my private social media accounts. I say “more” but really it meant I might be posting every 2 weeks (sometimes), rather than once a month or two. It was also longer posts. Instead of just a one liner about the 1 of the 10 or so pics I’d post at a time, I began having more of a narrative and story that I told. I expressed more about my thoughts and feelings. Just a short paragraph or two per post, but still more than before.

Blogging

This felt more in line with how I desired my travels to impact my life. A more authentic expression of such. While this resonated more than before it still felt lacking. Working with the platform was limiting in various ways. A long time traveler, friend, and partner would privately journal. Then from that make occasional long-form blog posts that would have a consistent narrative. That inspired me to look for something more than just posting on Instagram and Facebook.
