The Beginning of Have Helmet Will Travel

It may be fairly out of the way, but Helen was certainly pretty.

Up Until Now…

Escape the South 2023

It’s hard to put everything that I’ve done up until “now”, which we’ll say is when this journaling / blogging starts – The beginning of Have Helmet Will Travel. So many friends, so many places, so many experiences. Here’s some Google maps showing places I’ve traveled, but 2022 in Georgia is where everything started. I started everything in a little park in Helen, Georgia where I spent a few months making sure I was ready to hit the road full time. I enjoyed all the people I met, some who I still keep in touch with. Being in Georgia was not where I wanted to be though. So finally, in Escaping Georgia, a lot of time was spent in New Mexico, Arizona, Oregon, and Washington.

I affectionately call this leg of my journeys, “Escape from The South 2023”
Fuck the Georgia DMV 2023

Once I found out I could not extend my vehicle registration renewal process, I had to head back in order to get an inspection at a Georgia inspection station so I could renew it. Back across the country we went.

Winter in the Desert 2023

This journaling process starts in April of 2024. That is after Georgia in fall of 2023, when I traveled west to spend my time in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Southern California.

I really wanted to spend my 2023 winter out west after being forced to go to Georgia for fall 2023.

Notable events:
• My first “travel friends” being made at an airstream park in Helen, GA in fall of 2022. Wendy and I still cross paths and make plans together to this day.

It may be fairly out of the way, but Helen was certainly pretty.

• Many on-the-road repairs with the trailer (so many water leaks), but no auto accidents.

A picture of one of the many repairs that have been required.

• Becoming a novice wing-foiler in Hood River, Oregon.
• Attended Holy Toledo, a van-life meetup event. From there I met many great friends there that I still keep in touch with.

A bunch of us from Holy Toledo caravaned together for a bit.

• Enjoyed The Lit Cactus crowd and bonfires in Quartzite. Yet more nomad friends made.
• Spent part of winter in Bashford’s hot spring park where I connected with the local Bombay Beach community and others.

Much fun at Bashford’s was had.
