Pub Crawl, Food Trucks, and Rodeos

Fairbanks, AK –

Downtown Pub Crawl

I feel like I’ve FINALLY caught up on some of my overdue social media posting and I’m up to date with my journaling. This will be a quick one. Been sticking to a schedule and routine which feels lovely and also have been going to events here in town and making friends. Recently this was a pub crawl downtown, where we got second place for the scavenger hunt! Monte was certainly the most competitive between him, Heidi, Phillip, and me but I like to feel like we all pulled our weight. This blurb will be short, but I should have some pictures to add to it here later on to do it justice.

North Pole Food Truck Festival

I’m writing this on July 24th and I am looking at what I wrote above and just laughing. I caught up on journaling July 8th and then was silent for 2 weeks. Let’s see, what has happened since then… I’m still sticking with a good workout routine other than getting sick for a few days, likely from the pub crawl. There was a food truck “festival” type deal. Honestly, I had some great Filipino food – Siomai, Lumpia, and Pancit. The downside was there was way too many people for the number of trucks that were there. A lot of the lines were thirty or more minutes long – which is just not worth it for me. I know that Jamie and Trent, some paramedics I’ve met, appreciated me waiting in that Filipino food truck line twice so they could get a sampler plate for their ride back to Healy.

Northernmost Rodeo in America

Some big news is that Wendy finally caught up to me July 14th! That’s right, originally we were supposed to be travelling from Vancouver to Fairbanks and further together in May. Various things – my grandfather’s funeral in Georgia, her dog Brewster needing to go to the vet for an eye injury, issues with getting some prescription medicine while in Canada, and other problems prevented us from traveling together. Meeting her and the puppers at her campground, we noticed the Northernmost Rodeo in America going on next door at the fairgrounds. So naturally, we walked over and bought some tickets. The rodeo itself was fairly run-of-the-mill as far as Rodeos go. I definitely enjoyed the barrel racing where motorcycles were vs horses, though. Much to my dismay, the motorcycles did not win. Smelling that two stroke smoke mixed with mud, I was taken back to a different time. I know that smell is one of the senses most closely tied to memory, but it was a shock sitting there in the bleachers while simultaneously being in the North Georgia woods remembering my first time on a two stroke.

What’s Next

Next on the list? Well near term I’ll be heading to Georgia for an Allen family vacation at the lake. After that then back to Fairbanks where I’ll be planning on more adventures. Polar plunges, hot springs, and maybe a festival or two.

Helmet and beer pic. Classic.
