The Howling Dog

The Howling Dog is a saloon in Fox, Alaska which is 20 minutes from Fairbanks. It’s ran by Ralph who is an old BMW airhead motorcycle guy. I ended up stumbling across this after an invite to the monthly airhead meetup at the Howling Dog, which is actually closed but Ralph opens it up for special events, such as the meetup.

Old BMW Motorcycles

The vintage BMW meetup was actually great. Hilariously, I rode my the Talaria there which resulted in a lot of skeptical looks. Let me tell you, if you want a crowd of people who are anti-electric motorcycle, go to a vintage motorcycle meetup! Despite a few rustled feathers, they were a friendly crowd. It was nice to make some more connections in the area and I got some “cred” after showing them pictures of my 1978 BMW R100/7 that’s back in Eugene, OR in Stephen’s garage.

One of these is not like the others

Heidi, thanks for the invite! Ralph, thanks for being so welcoming to your place. Also, I really appreciate the invite to the private party at the Howling dog that Sunday. It was a great party and a lovely band. I got introduced to the town drunks, George and Maggie. While a bit obnoxious, they were mostly harmless. It was great seeing the city of Fox’s local crowd as well as the local biking groups. Hopefully The Howling Dog will re-open to the public soon! It’s a fantastic venue with a fantastic group of people that show up to it.
